The cooperative effort between Brimtek Motorsports (WC Touring driver Tristan Herbert and MARRS standout Tom Martin) and RennGruppe Motorsports (engineer Cameron Conover and driver Kirk Knestis) swept the 2011 ARRC ITB podium, with the drivers finishing first, second, and third respectively.

Welcome to the CoolShirt Systems® IT National Tour

The ITNT (or IT Tour) is a new idea in SCCA Regional road racing, making its debut for the 2012 racing season. The concept is to provide the serious Improved Touring category racer a challenge greater than a Regional champion - a chance to compete with the best IT cars in the central and eastern US, for trophies and bragging rights in the biggest IT series in the nation.

The ITNT is open to any SCCA racer driving an ITC, ITB, ITA, ITS, or ITR car. Points are accumulated based on finishes in three key events:

  • The I.T. SPEC*tacular
  • The American Road Race of Champions Presented by Grassroots Motorsport (the ARRC by GRM)
  • One of several Elective races located throughout the country (see the 2012 Schedule)

The first two years of the ITNT is being supported by series title sponsor CoolShirt Systems, manufacturer of driver cooling systems. Visit this site often for news and additional details about the IT National Tour, and we will see you in 2012.

Central Florida Region Elective Points Awarded Print

Results are in from the first ITNT elective event - Central Florida Region's SARRC/Regional/Vintage event, run February 11-12 on Sebring's long course. As this is the first event of the 2012 CoolShirt Systems® IT National Tour, top finishers from this race are currently leading the IT Tour points.

Miki Moerwald (VW Rabbit) finished on top in ITC, trailed by Ernest Taylor (Honda Civic) and Barry Batchin in another Rabbit. Seven C cars earned points, in the system that rewards beating competitors rather than simply finishing first, leaving Moerwald with 18 points.

Ex-ARRC champion Deuce Keane won ITB in his Honda Accord. David Ellis-Brown (VW Jetta III) and Norman Fuller (VW Golf) finished second and third. Keane leads the ITB ITNT total with 20 points as a result of beating eight other cars in his class.

Twenty-one cars started the ITA race, with James Magero (Miata) finishing ahead of Alex Bolanos (Miata) and Doug King (Acura Integra). Magero leaves Sebring with 22 points and a great jump on his IT Tour competitors.

The top three in ITS were all in Mazda RX7s, with Timothy Potter, Marc Dana, and Steve Golden finishing in that order among the 15 cars entered in the class. Potter's total of 22 Tour points gives him a solid start to the season as well.

Finally, Jeffrey Cripe (BMW) bested David Lempert in his BMW Z3 and Bob Henderson in his Toyota Supra, to take 17 points away from the weekend. ITR was the smallest IT class at Sebring, with six entries, but the class appears to be slowly gaining entries.

The next Elective event in the 2012 CoolShirt Systems® IT National Tour is the CFR Regional at Daytona, scheduled for May 5-6. Additional entry information will be posted soon on the CFR SCCA web site.

IT National Tour Opportunity for Regional Racers Print
Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:03

Shafer Enterprises LLC and the ITNT Steering Committee are pleased to announce the creation of the 2012 CoolShirt Systems® IT National Tour. Intended for cars prepared to the SCCA’s Improved Touring category, this series will fill a void long experienced by hundreds of IT drivers across the country.

According to ITNT Administrator Butch Kummer, "While the SCCA National Board of Directors has been appropriately steadfast in its resolve to keep Improved Touring a regional-only category, many in the IT community long for a National Championship program for their cars. IT makes up a major portion of our local events but there is no recognized path to determining an overall champion in this category. We feel this new series fills the need for IT drivers ready to take that next step without disrupting existing SCCA races that depend on those same drivers for their success. It is truly a 'win-win' situation for both the IT community and the local SCCA regions."
